Dhanlaxmi Bank traces its origins to Thrissur, a town that has historically been a centre of banking activity in Kerala and is sometimes referred to as the banking capital of the state. Several of India's older private banks, including those that later merged into larger institutions, were established in and around Thrissur during the same era.
The bank operates as a scheduled commercial bank under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, offering retail banking, corporate banking, treasury operations, and related financial services. Its branch network is concentrated in Kerala but extends across multiple Indian states, supplemented by ATMs and digital banking channels.
The bank's product portfolio includes savings and current accounts, fixed and recurring deposits, retail loans such as housing, vehicle and personal loans, gold loans, agricultural finance, and loans to micro, small and medium enterprises. On the corporate side, it provides working capital finance, term loans, trade finance and foreign exchange services. It also offers third-party products such as insurance and mutual funds through tie-ups, along with internet and mobile banking platforms.
Dhanlaxmi Bank is governed by a board of directors in accordance with the Companies Act and Reserve Bank of India norms applicable to private sector banks. Day-to-day operations are headed by a Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer appointed with the approval of the Reserve Bank of India.
As one of the older private sector banks rooted in Kerala, Dhanlaxmi Bank forms part of the regional banking heritage of Thrissur alongside other institutions historically based in the town. It contributes to financial services in Kerala's retail, gold loan and small business segments, areas in which Kerala-based private banks have traditionally been active.
