Film City, officially known as Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, is an integrated film studio complex located in Goregaon East, a suburb in the northern part of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Spread across the wooded slopes adjoining the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in the Aarey region, it is one of the largest centres of film production in India and a key facility supporting the Hindi-language film industry, popularly known as Bollywood.

Film City functions as a state-supported production hub offering outdoor and indoor shooting locations, recording stages, sets, and post-production support. The complex includes natural settings such as forested hills, lakes, and gardens, as well as constructed sets representing temples, courtrooms, palaces, gardens, prisons, and urban streetscapes. These facilities are used for feature films, television serials, advertisements, and music videos.
The studio complex was established by the Government of Maharashtra to provide subsidised shooting facilities to filmmakers and to consolidate film production infrastructure in Mumbai. It is administered by the Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development Corporation Limited (MFSCDCL), a state government undertaking responsible for promoting film, theatre, and related cultural activities in the state.
The complex was renamed Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari in honour of Dadasaheb Phalke, widely regarded as the father of Indian cinema and the maker of Raja Harishchandra (1913), the first full-length Indian feature film.
Film City lies in the eastern part of Goregaon, abutting the Aarey Milk Colony and the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. The terrain is hilly and densely vegetated in parts, which has made the complex a preferred outdoor location for shoots requiring forest, hill, or rural landscapes within the city limits of Mumbai. Its proximity to the suburban rail network and the Western Express Highway makes it accessible from other production centres in Andheri, Bandra, and Juhu.
Film City has hosted production work for a large number of Hindi feature films and television serials since its establishment. It is regularly used by major Bollywood producers and television channels for both studio-bound shoots and outdoor sequences. Mythological, historical, and family drama serials, in particular, have made extensive use of its standing sets.
As one of the principal film production complexes in India, Film City plays a structural role in sustaining Mumbai's position as the centre of the Hindi film industry. By offering government-administered facilities at regulated rates, it supplements the private studios of Mumbai such as those in Andheri and Goregaon, and supports a wide ecosystem of technicians, set designers, light and equipment suppliers, and casting agencies based in the surrounding suburbs.
