Jiwaji University is a state public university located in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. Established in 1964, it serves as one of the principal centres of higher education and research in the Gwalior–Chambal region of Madhya Pradesh, offering instruction across the sciences, arts, commerce, social sciences, management, law and education. The university is named after Maharaja Jiwajirao Scindia of the erstwhile Gwalior State.

The university was set up by an Act of the Madhya Pradesh state legislature to meet the growing demand for higher education in the northern part of the state. It was inaugurated by the then President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, an event that is regularly commemorated in the institution's history. The university takes its name from Jiwajirao Scindia, the last ruling Maharaja of Gwalior, reflecting the historical association of the Scindia family with the city's educational and civic institutions.
The main campus is situated in Gwalior and houses teaching departments, research centres, administrative offices, the central library and student facilities. As a state university, Jiwaji University combines on-campus postgraduate teaching and doctoral research with the affiliation of a large number of degree colleges spread across districts in the Gwalior–Chambal division, making it one of the larger affiliating universities in Madhya Pradesh.

Examinations for affiliated colleges across the region are conducted by the university, and degrees are awarded under its statutes.
The university supports doctoral research across the sciences and humanities, with notable activity in life sciences, chemistry, environmental studies and social sciences. Several departments collaborate with national funding agencies and host research scholars working on regional, national and applied themes.
Jiwaji University is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is included among the institutions empowered to award degrees under the UGC Act. Individual professional programmes are accredited by the relevant statutory bodies in India for their respective disciplines.
As the principal state university in the Gwalior region, Jiwaji University plays a central role in postgraduate education, teacher training and research output for a large geographic area of northern Madhya Pradesh.
