Dinesh Vijan began his producing career in collaboration with director Homi Adajania and filmmaker Saif Ali Khan's Illuminati Films, working on titles such as Being Cyrus, Love Aaj Kal and Cocktail. He subsequently established Maddock Films as an independent production banner, gradually expanding its slate from urban romantic dramas to genre cinema.
Among the films associated with Maddock Films are romantic and dramatic features such as Badlapur, Hindi Medium and Raabta. The studio later developed a connected horror-comedy series, beginning with Stree, directed by Amar Kaushik, followed by Bhediya, Munjya and Stree 2. These films, drawing on Indian folklore and regional myths, have been described as forming a shared cinematic universe within Hindi popular cinema.
The banner has also produced films including Angrezi Medium, Mimi and Luka Chuppi, working with directors such as Amar Kaushik, Laxman Utekar and Saket Chaudhary, and with actors including Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon and the late Irrfan Khan.
Maddock Films is recognised within the Hindi film industry for backing mid-budget, content-driven productions and for popularising the horror-comedy genre at the box office through its folklore-based universe. Its films have generally been released theatrically and subsequently distributed through streaming platforms.
