Priyanka Chopra Jonas is an Indian actress, producer, and former beauty queen who has worked extensively in Hindi cinema and American television and film. She rose to international prominence after winning the Miss World 2000 pageant and became one of the highest-paid and most recognised Indian performers of her generation. She has received several awards, including a National Film Award and multiple Filmfare Awards, and was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2016.

Priyanka Chopra was born into a Punjabi family in Jamshedpur. Owing to her parents' postings in the Indian Army medical services, she spent her childhood in several Indian cities including Delhi, Lucknow, Bareilly, Pune and Ladakh. She studied at La Martiniere Girls' School in Lucknow and St. Maria Goretti College in Bareilly, and spent part of her teenage years in the United States, attending school in Newton, Massachusetts, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before returning to India.
In 2000, at the age of seventeen, she won the Femina Miss India World title and went on to be crowned Miss World 2000 in London, becoming the fifth Indian to win the title.
Chopra made her acting debut in the Tamil film Thamizhan (2002), followed by her Hindi debut in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003). She gained recognition with Andaaz (2003), for which she received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Her performance as a seductive antagonist in Aitraaz (2004) earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role.
Subsequent commercial and critical successes included Krrish (2006), Don (2006) and its sequel Don 2 (2011), Fashion (2008) — for which she won the National Film Award for Best Actress — Kaminey (2009), 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), Barfi! (2012), Mary Kom (2014), in which she portrayed the boxer M. C. Mary Kom, and Bajirao Mastani (2015), for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
In 2015, Chopra became one of the first South Asian actors to lead a major American network drama, playing FBI recruit Alex Parrish in the ABC series Quantico, which ran for three seasons until 2018. Her Hollywood film appearances include Baywatch (2017), Isn't It Romantic (2019), The White Tiger (2021), based on Aravind Adiga's Booker Prize-winning novel, The Matrix Resurrections (2021), and the Amazon Prime Video spy series Citadel (2023), produced by the Russo brothers.
Chopra signed with Universal Music Group's Interscope Records and released singles including "In My City" (2012, featuring will.i.am) and "Exotic" (2013, featuring Pitbull). In 2015, she founded Purple Pebble Pictures, which has produced regional-language Indian films in Marathi, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Sikkimese and Assamese, often promoting new talent.
Chopra has been associated with UNICEF since 2006 and was appointed a Global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2016, focusing on child rights and girls' education. Through the Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education, she has supported underprivileged children in India. She has also spoken at the United Nations and World Economic Forum on issues of gender equality and refugee welfare.
Chopra is regarded as a pioneering figure in the crossover of Indian performers into mainstream Hollywood productions. Her sustained presence in both Indian and American entertainment industries, coupled with entrepreneurial ventures in production, fashion, and hospitality (including the restaurant Sona in New York City and the haircare brand Anomaly), has made her one of the most globally visible Indian celebrities of the 21st century.
