Rajinder Amarnath was born into one of Indian cricket's most prominent families. His father, Lala Amarnath, was India's first Test centurion and later captained the national side. His elder brother Surinder Amarnath played Test cricket for India in the 1970s, while his other brother Mohinder Amarnath was a leading middle-order batsman of the 1970s and 1980s and was named Man of the Match in the final of the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
Rajinder Amarnath played first-class cricket in India during the 1970s and 1980s. Like his father and brothers, he featured in the domestic circuit as an all-round cricketer, contributing with both bat and ball. While he did not progress to the Indian Test side, his career formed part of the broader cricketing legacy of the Amarnath family in Indian domestic cricket.
Rajinder Amarnath is most often referenced in the context of the Amarnath family, whose members have collectively played a substantial role in the history of Indian cricket from the pre-Independence era through to the post-1983 World Cup period. The family is frequently cited as one of the earliest and most influential cricketing dynasties in India.
