Rashtriya Raksha University

Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) is a central university in India dedicated to teaching, training, and research in the broad field of policing, internal security, and criminal justice. Located in Lavad, Dahegam taluka, Gandhinagar district, in the state of Gujarat, it functions as an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India.

Background

The institution traces its origin to Raksha Shakti University, a state university established by the Government of Gujarat to train personnel for police and security services. Recognising the need for a national-level institution focused on policing and internal security, the Government of India upgraded it to a central university with broader mandate.

The Rashtriya Raksha University Act was enacted by Parliament, and the university began operating as a national institution in 2020. It absorbed the academic infrastructure and programmes of the earlier Raksha Shakti University.

Academic structure

RRU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, diploma, and certificate programmes across several specialised schools. The academic portfolio is designed to build capacity for police forces, paramilitary services, intelligence agencies, private security organisations, and allied disciplines.

Campus

The main campus is situated at Lavad in Gandhinagar district, Gujarat, with facilities for classroom instruction, simulation-based training, physical training, and residential accommodation. The university has also pursued the establishment of regional campuses and study centres in other parts of India to expand access to its programmes.
