Tata Motors Limited is an Indian multinational automotive manufacturing company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is part of the Tata Group and is engaged in the design, manufacture and sale of passenger cars, commercial vehicles, sport utility vehicles, buses, trucks and defence vehicles. Tata Motors is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in India and has a significant global presence through subsidiaries and joint ventures.

The company was founded in 1945 as Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO), initially manufacturing locomotives and other engineering products for the Indian Railways. It entered the commercial vehicle sector in 1954 through a collaboration with Daimler-Benz of Germany, which lasted until 1969. The company was renamed Tata Motors in 2003 to reflect its evolution into a full-fledged automobile manufacturer.
Tata Motors operates manufacturing plants in several Indian states, including Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), Pune (Maharashtra), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Pantnagar (Uttarakhand), Sanand (Gujarat) and Dharwad (Karnataka). The company has international manufacturing and assembly operations in countries including the United Kingdom, South Korea, Thailand, South Africa and Indonesia.
Tata Motors produces a wide spectrum of vehicles, from small passenger cars to heavy commercial trucks and buses. Notable passenger vehicles include the Indica, Indigo, Nano, Tiago, Tigor, Altroz, Punch, Nexon, Harrier and Safari. Its commercial vehicle range includes the Tata Ace, Tata 407, Tata Prima and Tata Ultra. The company is also a major supplier of defence vehicles to the Indian Armed Forces.
Tata Motors is recognised as a pioneer of the Indian automotive industry. It produced the first indigenous Indian passenger car (Indica) and the world's most affordable production car (Nano). Its acquisition of Jaguar Land Rover marked one of the most significant overseas takeovers by an Indian company. Tata Motors has also emerged as a leading manufacturer in India's electric vehicle market, contributing to the country's transition to cleaner mobility.
