Venkatesh made his acting debut with Kaliyuga Pandavulu (1986), produced under Suresh Productions and directed by A. Kodandarami Reddy. The film established him as a new lead actor in Telugu cinema. He followed this with several commercially successful films in the late 1980s, building a base in mainstream family-oriented entertainment.
Through the 1990s, Venkatesh became one of the prominent leading actors of Telugu cinema with films such as Bobbili Raja, Chanti, Kshana Kshanam directed by Ram Gopal Varma, Sundarakanda, and Preminchukundam Raa. He worked with several leading directors of the era and acted alongside many of the era's prominent heroines.
In the 2000s and 2010s, Venkatesh continued to feature in successful films, balancing family dramas, comedies, and remakes of films from other Indian languages. Notable titles from this period include Nuvvu Naaku Nachav, Malliswari, Gharshana, Adavari Matalaku Arthale Verule, Bodyguard, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (in which he co-starred with Mahesh Babu), and Drushyam, the Telugu remake of the Malayalam film Drishyam.
Venkatesh made his Hindi film debut with Anari (1993), directed by K. Muralimohana Rao, opposite Karisma Kapoor. While he has primarily remained focused on Telugu cinema, he has occasionally worked in other languages.
Venkatesh expanded into streaming content with the web series Rana Naidu on Netflix, in which he co-starred with his nephew Rana Daggubati. The series marked his entry into the long-form digital format. He has also continued to appear in theatrical releases.
Beyond acting, Venkatesh is closely associated with Suresh Productions, one of the largest and oldest film production companies in South India. The company has been involved in producing films across several Indian languages and has played a significant role in the development of Telugu cinema infrastructure, including studios in Hyderabad.
Venkatesh has received multiple Nandi Awards from the Government of Andhra Pradesh and several Filmfare Awards South for his performances in Telugu cinema. He is widely regarded for his versatility across genres and his long career as a leading actor.
Venkatesh is considered one of the senior leading actors of Telugu cinema, with a career spanning several decades. His films have often catered to family audiences, and he is associated with a screen image that combines mainstream commercial appeal with performance-driven roles. As a member of the Daggubati family and a key figure linked to Suresh Productions, he is part of one of the most influential lineages in Telugu film production.
