Vinod Patel

Overview

Vinod Shankarbhai Patel (28 February 1939 – 5 January 2024) was a Fiji Indian businessman, football administrator and politician. He served as chairman of Vinod Patel and Company Limited, which owns a chain of hardware shops across Fiji.

Patel was a strong supporter of the Ba football team, serving as its president and as a Fiji Team director. He entered public life as a councillor in the Ba Town Council, and was subsequently elected mayor, serving two terms before moving on to national politics.

Contesting on a National Federation Party ticket, Patel won the Ba Urban Indian Communal Constituency in the 1992 general election and was re-elected in 1994. In the 1999 and 2001 elections, he sought to return to Parliament from the Ba West Indian Communal Constituency, but was defeated by the Fiji Labour Party candidate on both occasions.

Vinod Patel died on 5 January 2024 at the age of 84.
