Overview
The AP EAMCET (Engineering Agricultural and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test, also referred to as AP EAPCET) is a state-level entrance examination conducted in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh for admission into undergraduate professional courses. It serves as the qualifying test for entry into colleges offering programmes in Engineering, Agriculture, and Pharmacy, with the latter category also covering Veterinary courses. The examination has been conducted since 1986.
Following the bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh, a separate counterpart examination, TG EAPCET, has been conducted in Telangana since 2015. Both tests function independently within their respective states, while sharing a common origin and structure rooted in the original combined entrance test.

Role in admissions
AP EAMCET acts as the gateway for admission into a range of undergraduate professional programmes offered by colleges across Andhra Pradesh. Candidates seeking admission to Engineering courses, as well as those aspiring for seats in Agriculture, Pharmacy, and Veterinary streams, appear for the test. The examination thus consolidates the entrance process for several professional disciplines under a single common test, simplifying the admission pathway for students from the science stream at the higher secondary level.
Performance in AP EAMCET is used to determine eligibility and ranking for seat allotment in participating institutions in the state. Since the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, candidates seeking admission in Telangana appear for the separate TG EAPCET, while AP EAMCET continues to cater specifically to admissions in Andhra Pradesh.
Background
The examination originated as a unified entrance test for the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh, with its first edition held in 1986. For nearly three decades, it functioned as a single test covering institutions located across the combined state. After the formation of Telangana as a separate state, the entrance examination was split, and from 2015 onwards Telangana began conducting its own version, TG EAPCET. Andhra Pradesh has continued to administer AP EAPCET (commonly referred to as AP EAMCET) for institutions within its jurisdiction.
