Chopra made his directorial debut with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) in 1995, which he also wrote. Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, the film became a landmark in Hindi cinema and has had a record-breaking continuous theatrical run at Mumbai's Maratha Mandir cinema. The film won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, and Chopra received the Filmfare Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay.
He later directed Mohabbatein (2000), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008) and Befikre (2016).
Producer and studio head
Following the death of his father in 2012, Aditya Chopra took over the leadership of Yash Raj Films. Under his stewardship, the company has produced a wide range of commercially and critically successful Hindi films, including titles in the Dhoom, Tiger and War franchises, as well as films such as Chak De! India, Band Baaja Baaraat, Sultan and Pathaan.
He has also overseen the expansion of Yash Raj Films into music, distribution, talent management, home entertainment and digital content. The studio launched its in-house music label and has produced web series for streaming platforms.
