Background

Rajasthan has progressively reorganised agricultural higher education by carving out region-specific universities from the older single university structure. Agriculture University, Kota was created as part of this policy of decentralisation, with the aim of focusing teaching and research on the agro-climatic conditions, cropping patterns, and farming challenges specific to the Kota division and surrounding districts.

The Hadoti region, which includes Kota, Bundi, Baran, and Jhalawar districts, is known for the cultivation of crops such as soyabean, wheat, mustard, coriander, garlic, paddy, maize, gram, and oranges (notably in Jhalawar). The university's mandate is closely linked to the productivity, sustainability, and diversification of these systems.
