Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College (YSPGMC) is a medical college located in Nahan in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Established in 2016, the institution is named after Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar, the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. It is regarded as the third government medical college in Himachal Pradesh, after Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College.

Background

The foundation stone of the college was laid by the then Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh on 6 November 2016. The institution was established to address the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals in the state and to contribute to medical education and healthcare delivery in the region. The existing Government Hospital in Nahan was converted to function as the teaching hospital attached to the medical college.

Academics and institution

YSPGMC offers undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses along with a nursing programme.

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS): A total of 120 students are admitted to the MBBS programme each year. Admission is carried out through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), with 15% of seats reserved under the All India Quota. After the NEET cut-offs are declared, the Atal Medical and Research University (AMRU) conducts the admission and counselling process on behalf of YSPGMC. The initial intake of 100 seats was subsequently increased to 120.
  • General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM): The college admits 30 students into the GNM programme every year.
  • Postgraduate – Community Medicine: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved three postgraduate seats in Community Medicine at YSPGMC.

Campus and facilities

The college is situated in the town of Nahan, where the Government Hospital was converted into a teaching hospital for the medical college. Hostel accommodation is provided for both male and female MBBS students on the campus.
