Government Medical College, Manjeri is a medical college located in Manjeri in Malappuram district, Kerala, around 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) from Malappuram town. It is affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and is the sixth government medical college established in Kerala. The institution was inaugurated on 1 September 2013 by the then Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy, and has been further facilitated under Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan since 2016.

Background

Government Medical College, Manjeri is one among four newly sanctioned medical colleges in Kerala. The college was allotted to Malappuram district through the revised 2011 state budget presented by the then Finance Minister K. M. Mani in July 2011. The establishment of the institution addressed a long-standing demand for a government medical college in Malappuram district, and it commenced functioning following its inauguration in September 2013.

Academics and institution

The college offers undergraduate medical education with an annual intake of 110 students, and is academically affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences. The attached teaching hospital has 500 beds and 12 operation theatres, providing clinical training facilities for students alongside healthcare services for the region. Since 2016, the institution has continued to be developed under the state government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
