Overview
Haradanahalli Devegowda Kumaraswamy (born 16 December 1959) is an Indian politician and film producer. He is serving as the 21st Minister of Heavy Industries and the 14th Minister of Steel of India since 2024. He is the son of H. D. Deve Gowda, former Chief Minister of Karnataka and former Prime Minister of India.
Kumaraswamy served as the 12th Chief Minister of Karnataka on two occasions: from 2006 to 2007 and again from 2018 to 2019. Between these terms, he served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 2013 to 2014. He is the president of the Karnataka State unit of the Janata Dal (Secular).
He has held legislative office at both the state and union levels. He represented Ramanagara in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2009 and again from 2013 to 2018, and subsequently represented Channapatna from 2018 to 2024. He is currently a member of the Lok Sabha, having been elected from the Mandya constituency.
