It is situated in the National Capital Region, in the city of Rohtak in the state of Haryana, which places it within commuting distance of Delhi and the wider industrial belt of northern India.
Like other IIMs, the institute functions as an autonomous body. Following the enactment of the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017, it acquired the statutory power to grant degrees in its own name, replacing the post-graduate diplomas previously offered by IIMs.
Academics
The institute offers post-graduate, doctoral and executive programmes in management. Its flagship offering is a two-year residential post-graduate programme in management, comparable to a Master of Business Administration. In addition, the institute conducts a doctoral-level programme aimed at training researchers and academics in management and allied disciplines, along with executive education for working professionals.
Admissions to the post-graduate programme are made primarily on the basis of the Common Admission Test (CAT), which is conducted by the IIMs on a rotational basis, followed by further stages such as written assessment and personal interviews.
Campus
IIM Rohtak operates from a campus in Rohtak that houses academic blocks, residential facilities for students and faculty, a library, and sports and recreational infrastructure. The campus is designed as a residential institution, in line with the model followed by other IIMs.
