Background

The institution traces its origins to an engineering college established in Gorakhpur during the post-independence period to meet the growing demand for technical education in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. It functioned for several decades as an engineering college affiliated to a state university, before being upgraded to the status of a state-funded technical university by an Act of the Uttar Pradesh State Legislature. Following this upgrade, the institution was renamed in honour of Madan Mohan Malaviya and began awarding its own degrees.

Academics

MMMUT offers programmes structured around departments of engineering, sciences, and humanities. Common programme streams include:

  • Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in disciplines such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, and Chemical Engineering.
  • Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in specialised branches including structural engineering, power systems, communication systems, computer science, and environmental engineering.
  • Master of Computer Applications (MCA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA).
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programmes across engineering, science, and management disciplines.
  • Integrated and dual-degree programmes in selected branches.

The academic calendar follows a semester system with continuous internal evaluation along with end-semester examinations. Departments host laboratories aligned with their disciplines and supervise project work, internships, and dissertations as part of the curriculum.

Campus and facilities

The university operates from a campus in Gorakhpur city. The campus houses academic blocks for various departments, central and departmental laboratories, workshops, drawing halls, lecture theatres, and a central library that holds collections of textbooks, reference works, journals, and digital resources.
