The Government Medical College and Hospital Cuddalore, formerly known as the Rajah Muthiah Medical College, is a medical college located in Chidambaram, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu, India. The institution was established in 1985 under Annamalai University and was originally named after M. A. Muthiah Chettiar, the Raja of Chettinad. It was renamed in 2021 following its transfer to the Health and Family Welfare department of the Government of Tamil Nadu, after which it was reaffiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University.

Academics and institution

The college was founded in 1985 as a constituent medical institution of Annamalai University, and was named in honour of M. A. Muthiah Chettiar, the Raja of Chettinad. In 2021, the college and its associated hospital were handed over to the Health and Family Welfare department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. As part of this transition, the institution was renamed the Government Medical College and Hospital Cuddalore, and its academic affiliation was transferred from Annamalai University to the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University.

The attached teaching hospital functions as a tertiary level centre with a capacity of 1200 beds. It includes a 24-hour emergency department and a coronary care unit, providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services in addition to supporting clinical training for medical students.
