The film was a commercial success and established Selvaraghavan as a director with a strong personal voice. He followed it with 7G Rainbow Colony (2004), a romantic tragedy starring Ravi Krishna and Sonia Agarwal, which became one of his most acclaimed works and was simultaneously made in Telugu.
Later films
Selvaraghavan directed Pudhupettai (2006), a gritty gangster drama starring Dhanush, which is regarded as a cult classic in Tamil cinema. He moved into the fantasy genre with Aayirathil Oruvan (2010), an ambitious adventure film about the search for a lost Chola prince, starring Karthi, Reemma Sen and Andrea Jeremiah. The film received mixed initial reception but has since attracted a substantial following.
His subsequent films include Mayakkam Enna (2011), starring Dhanush and Richa Gangopadhyay, which dealt with the struggles of an aspiring photographer; and Irandaam Ulagam (2013), a parallel-universe romance starring Anushka Shetty and Arya.
