Production
Rohit Shetty announced the sequel after the success of the 2011 film. Principal photography took place across Mumbai, Goa and Hyderabad. Music
The soundtrack was composed by Yo Yo Honey Singh, Jeet Gannguli, Ankit Tiwari and Meet Bros Anjjan, with the background score by Amar Mohile. Songs included "Aata Majhi Satakli", "Kuch Toh Hua Hai" and a recreated version of "Sun Sathiya".
Release and reception
Singham Returns was released theatrically on 15 August 2014, coinciding with India's Independence Day weekend. The film opened to strong box office numbers and emerged as one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2014. Critical response was mixed, with reviewers praising Ajay Devgn's screen presence and the action sequences, while some criticised the screenplay and characterisation of the antagonists.
Significance
The film consolidated the Singham franchise as a major commercial property in Hindi cinema and laid further groundwork for what would later be developed by Rohit Shetty as a shared "Cop Universe", connecting the Singham character with later films Simmba (2018), Sooryavanshi (2021) and Singham Again (2024). The shared universe is among the earliest sustained attempts at interconnected film storytelling in mainstream Hindi cinema.
