Smriti Zubin Irani is an Indian politician, former television actress, and producer associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She served as a Union Cabinet Minister in the Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, holding portfolios including Human Resource Development, Textiles, Information and Broadcasting, Women and Child Development, and Minority Affairs at different points between 2014 and 2024. Background

Smriti Irani was born in Delhi to a Punjabi father and a Bengali mother. She attended Holy Child Auxilium School in New Delhi. Before her acting career, she worked in the hospitality and modelling sectors and was a finalist at the Miss India beauty pageant in 1998. She married Zubin Irani, a Parsi businessman, in 2001.

Television Career

Irani entered television in the late 1990s with shows such as Aatish and Hum Hain Kal Aaj Kal Aur Kal. Her breakthrough came in 2000 with Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms production Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi on Star Plus, where she played the character Tulsi Virani. The role earned her multiple Indian Television Academy Awards and Indian Telly Awards. She later hosted shows including Kya Hua Tera Vaada and produced content under her banner Ugraya Entertainment.

Political Career

Irani joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2003. She was appointed Vice-President of the BJP Maharashtra Yuva Morcha and later held senior roles in the party's national women's wing.
