TS EAMCET

Overview

TS EAMCET, officially conducted as the Telangana Engineering, Agricultural and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (TG EAPCET), is a state-level entrance examination held in the Indian state of Telangana. It is used for admission into undergraduate programmes in Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy, including Veterinary courses, offered by colleges across the state.

The examination is part of the broader EAPCET framework, which is conducted separately in Andhra Pradesh (as AP EAPCET) and Telangana (as TG EAPCET). The Andhra Pradesh test has been held since 1986, while Telangana began conducting its own examination in 2015, following the bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh.

Role in admissions

TG EAPCET serves as the qualifying examination for admission to undergraduate courses in Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy, as well as Veterinary programmes, in colleges located within Telangana. Candidates seeking admission to professional degree programmes in these streams are required to appear for the test, with seats allotted on the basis of performance.

The corresponding examination in Andhra Pradesh, AP EAPCET, fulfils the same role for institutions in that state. Together, the two examinations constitute the principal admission route for the engineering, agriculture and pharmacy streams in the two Telugu-speaking states.

Background

The entrance test was originally a single, unified examination conducted for the combined state of Andhra Pradesh from 1986 onwards. Following the reorganisation of Andhra Pradesh and the formation of Telangana, the examination was split between the two successor states. Since 2015, Telangana has conducted TG EAPCET independently, while Andhra Pradesh continues to hold AP EAPCET separately for its own institutions.
