Over the course of his domestic career he has turned out for several of South Africa's leading provincial and franchise sides, including the Dolphins, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, KwaZulu-Natal Inland, the Lions and the Titans.

International career

Shamsi made his international debut for South Africa in June 2016 during the team's tour of the Caribbean. As a left-arm wrist spinner, he offers a relatively rare bowling style in international cricket, and he has gone on to become South Africa's leading wicket-taker in Twenty20 Internationals.

Franchise Twenty20 career

Shamsi is an established figure on the global T20 franchise circuit. He represents:

  • Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
  • Joburg Super Kings in South Africa's SA20 league.

Shamsi is known for his attacking, wicket-taking approach with the ball and for his exuberant celebrations after dismissing batters, which have become a recognisable feature of his on-field persona. His ability to extract turn and bounce, combined with variations in pace and trajectory, has made him a sought-after specialist in the shortest formats of the game.

Significance

As the leading T20I wicket-taker for South Africa and a regular performer in three of the world's premier T20 leagues, Shamsi occupies an important position in contemporary South African cricket and in the broader landscape of franchise Twenty20 cricket.
