Background

TCS was established in 1968 as a division of Tata Sons, initially focused on providing data processing and management consultancy services to Indian businesses. Faqir Chand Kohli, often described as the "father of the Indian IT industry", led the company in its formative years. In its early decades, TCS pioneered the export of software services from India and helped establish the foundations of the country's offshore IT industry.

The company was incorporated as Tata Consultancy Services Limited in 1995 and made its initial public offering in 2004, which was at the time one of the largest IPOs in Indian corporate history. Following the IPO, TCS rapidly expanded its global delivery network and became the first Indian IT services company to cross several major revenue milestones.
