Background
Pune has a long-standing association with education in western India, hosting a wide spectrum of schools that range from heritage institutions established in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to more recently founded establishments serving the city's growing residential and commercial neighbourhoods. Schools in Pune typically operate under one of several regulatory frameworks, including the State Board of Maharashtra (under MSCERT and the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education), the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), or international curricula such as those recognised by the IB or Cambridge Assessment. The medium of instruction may be English, Marathi, Hindi or another language, and many schools maintain bilingual sections.
