Himmat Singh, a RAW officer, is convinced that a nineteen-year trail of terror attacks across India is connected by a single unidentified handler. Working off-the-books and under bureaucratic scrutiny, he deploys a small team of field agents posted across multiple countries to identify and neutralise the suspect. Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story

A four-episode prequel-spinoff titled Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story was released on Disney+ Hotstar on 12 November 2021. Reception

Special Ops received generally positive reviews from Indian critics, who praised Kay Kay Menon's performance, the layered screenplay, and the production values associated with international action set-pieces. The series was noted for grounding its fictional plot in real terror incidents, including the 2001 Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and the 26/11 conspiracy backdrop, while leaving the central antagonist as a fictional composite.

Awards and recognition

Significance

Special Ops was among the early flagship "Hotstar Specials" originals and contributed to the rapid growth of long-form espionage drama in Indian streaming, alongside titles such as The Family Man and Bard of Blood. It also established a recurring screen identity for Himmat Singh as a continuing character across formats, with further seasons announced under the same franchise.
