Gautam Buddha University (GBU) is a state public university located in Greater Noida, in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, India. The university was conceptualised as part of the development of Greater Noida under the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA), with the aim of creating a large, residential, research-oriented institution in western Uttar Pradesh. It was constituted under the Gautam Buddha University Act, 2002 enacted by the Uttar Pradesh State Legislature. The campus was developed on a substantial tract of land allotted by GNIDA in Greater Noida, in the National Capital Region (NCR).
The institution draws its name and identity from Gautam Buddha, and accordingly hosts a dedicated School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization alongside its mainstream professional schools. The campus design incorporates Buddhist architectural motifs, including a central meditation centre.
